My painting practice explores pushing the boundaries of what color can do. My Puerto Rican culture has a deep influence on how I am approaching these color decisions, as I come from a culture that is loud, bold, and unapologetic. I see my work as capturing many lengths of time, as the photos and videos I often reference are from a span of several years. I see painting as a way to weave memories into a new experience.

A large part of my process is dedicating time to experiment with materials and processes, pushing my painting practice into more expansive, installation-based forms. It is important to me as a queer Latinx artist that I allow myself to take up space in a world that too often makes artists like me smaller. Through layering, material exploration, and nontraditional approaches to surface and space, I aim to develop bodies of work that reflect the complexity and resilience of diasporic identity.

With my work continuing to grow in scale, I’m working through the dimensional concerns I’m investigating. Creating site-specific installations has been a way to expand the possibilities for shared experience and cultivate a stronger sense of presence.
